SIBA - Salzburg International Ballet Workshop Summer 2008

 

 

INTRODUCTION

Summer course for Ballet and Modern Dance

Take class, perform at the Pissouri Amphitheatre and enjoy the beach and nature in beautiful Episkopi!!!!
EDAS offers a summer course for both classical and modern dance students in the beautiful environment of Episkopi!
 

Lynn Wiltshire - Artistic Director - Modern Dance and Choreography -
After a dancing career with both the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey, Ms. Wiltshire became Dance Director and Educator at the University of Texas.
She has been teaching master classes and workshops all over the world, from London to Portugal, Hawaii and all over the United States. Artistic Direcror of L'A.R.T. Dance Project, she has choreographed for companies all over the United States.
Next to teaching classes for this workshop, Ms. Wiltshire is making a special choreography for this workshop for all participating dancers, which will be performed on July 8 at the Pissouri Amphitheatre.



Classical Ballet Martin Meng


Before becoming an internationally acclaimed Ballet master Martin Meng danced with Het Nationale Ballet Amsterdam, The National Ballet of Canada Toronto and the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
He studied with Ballet Masters from both the Kirov (Irina Kolpakova, Vladilen Semionov, Gennady Selyutski) and Bolshoi (Mikhail Lavrovski) companies, as well as many Masters from the Balanchine Trust (Brigitte Thom, Reuven Vooremberg, John Clifford).
Teaching for both modern and classical companies (a.o. Royal Swedish Ballet, Thoss Dance Company, Finnish National Ballet) he also teaches for schools like the Royal Conservatory in the Netherlands.
Mr. Meng has also learned from yoga, Alexander Technique and is willing to give special stretching classes, to extend the dancers individual abilities.

After starting her career at the National Opera in Bucharest, she danced also as a principal with the Cincinnati Ballet (USA) and the Ballet National de Santiago (Chile).
Danced leading roles in the whole classical Repertory from Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Nikya in La Bayadere to Kitri in Don Quixote.
Also performed principal parts in works from Balanchine (Rubies) and has many roles specially created for her by Peter Breuer.
Miss Uta will participate in the performance as a dancer and as a choreographer and generously agreed to also teach ballet technique classes during the workshop.

To further extend the range of dance techniques Jazz and Hip Hop classes are being offered by Dheeraj Asarfi from The Netherlands who will teach a special technique of Jazzy Hip Hop Indian ingredients and Fun Dancing.

The music of the performance is composed by David D'Or, world famous Counter-Tenor and composer from Israel, together with David Eaton, Director of the New York City Symphony, who generously allowed us to use his composition!

The purpose of this particular workshop, and based on its location (Cyprus) is to bring together students of the arts from countries around the Euro-Mediterranean area, allowing young artists from neighboring countries, to live together, create and perform art for 3 consecutive weeks, and at the end of the workshop give a spectacular performance in the Curium Amphitheater at Limassol.

 

2008 is the Pilot project for many to come in the future, featuring different peace projects for artists from all over the world.

 

The "Cantata for Peace" - A composition by the famous opera singer and writer Mr. David D'Or from Israel, in cooperation with Mr. David Eaton, Director of the New York Symphony, who have donated his symphony "HALELU - Songs of David, will be performed in full in the summer of 2009 at the Curium Amphitheatre.

 

This composition is in 3 languages, English, Arabic and Hebrew, and calls for peace between the nations. It has been adapted by the New York Symphony Orchestra and its director Mr. David Eaton; it has already been performed with huge success in New York, Jerusalem, and Belgrade. (see Video from the Belgrade performance Sept. 19, 2007).

 

This year's performance is based on the musical theme of this composition, featuring Ms. Cristina Uta, Principal Dancer of the Salzburg Ballet, choreographed a classical ballet dance to the theme of 'Cantata For Peace', and will perform at the Pissouri Amphitheatre on July 8th, 2008 - accompanied by dancers of the workshop.
 

Ms. Lyn Wiltshire, head of the performance and dance dept. of Texas University - Austin. has choreographed special pieces for the dancers participating in the project, to the music of Halelu, and will attend personally to supervise and teach, together with an international dance faculty.
 

 

THE GOAL

By creating such intercultural gathering of artists, the project can be an example to the world that nations can and are able to work, create and perform together when it comes to arts, creating new social connections between the countries, and enabling further education to excel in study and human understanding. This project will be the first step to intercultural future projects in different countries, following this example.

 

We would highly recommend that you make a student's dream come true, by sponsoring a student to experience this workshop. We have talented students who do not have the means or opportunity to further their studies, your help will be greatly appreciated.
